Opening reception of Tiffany Wellington's solo show 'Duppy Water' at Public Gallery.
Concentrating on a Sulphur-rich mineral spring in St Ann Bay, Jamaica, the project follows the story of a child named Mehala Smith, where 80 years ago she discovered the waters when she accidentally dropped a torch in the pool and ran home screaming “duppies r in da water”. Struck by this Fire Water, this exhibition recreates the pond’s magical properties by embodying burning water.
