Exile Is a Hard Job

'Exile Is a Hard Job' will be the first work shown by the artist Nil Yalter at Ab-Anbar’s new gallery space. Yalter (b. 1938, Cairo), who has been a pioneer of video and socially engaged art since the 1970s, grew up in Istanbul and has been living in Paris since 1965, working on the relationship between people and places. 'Exile Is a Hard Job' is a portrait of people whose presence is at once evident and absent: the essence of an indeterminate existence.

The window installation will be visible to Fitzrovia’s passers-by, amidst the bustling busy street, as a reminder of the implications of migration and exile and the discourses of contemporary politics worldwide.
