Established by Céline and Heiner Bastian in 1989, the gallery has been directed in Berlin by Aeneas Bastian since 2016. 20th Century artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Jean Dubuffet, as well as German and American post-war artists including Joseph Beuys, Anselm Kiefer, Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, Georg Baselitz and Andy Warhol, form the core of the exhibition program. Situated at 8 Davies Street in Mayfair, BASTIAN London opened on 1 February 2019.     For the inaugural edition of London Gallery Weekend, taking place 4-6 June 2021, BASTIAN will show a solo exhibition of works on paper by one of the female pioneers of abstract art, Sonia Delaunay. Entitled Rhythm and Colour and presented at BASTIAN's Mayfair gallery,the show brings together a group of late gouache works which exemplify the artist's energetic exploration into lyrical abstraction. Embracing gouache towards the latter half of her career and often executed in a small, intimate format, the works in this medium depict vibrant geometric patterns and forms that explore the different shapes which were characteristic of her paintings but with a much greater freedom. It was during this period in her career that Delaunay began to receive more international recognition as she became the first living female artist to exhibit at the Louvre in Paris.
