PM/AM: Open Studio
Join PM/AM gallery for an open studio with US Artist J Carino on Friday 31 May.
PM/AM's next resident artist has been in the studio since the end of April, working towards a solo show that will be opening this summer. J Carino paints images of nude bodies
within vivid natural landscapes, reclaiming not only the physical space, but a history of suppression that has sought to marginalise and invalidate queerness. In his work the human body is in varying degrees integrated with the landscape, substantiating the convergences in their relationship with mythology, symbolism and reverence.
Working out of a Central London studio, the immediate environment will present the artist with some new ways to situate his subjects, finding his kinship with nature where
the city’s industrialised topography is interrupted with wild or cultivated natural spaces. Previously influenced by surroundings in Colorado and California, this new dimension of J Carino’s painting will inform the body of work set to be displayed on the gallery walls in July.
