London Gallery Weekend Announces First Details of 2024 Programme
The programme for the fourth edition of London Gallery Weekend has just been announced. One of the leading events in the art world, the Weekend showcases the best of the London art scene, drawing collectors and curators from around the world to the UK capital.
For the new edition, the event has announced over 130 participating galleries, from established to emerging spaces, including 16 new participants. The Weekend highlights the vibrancy and variety of the London scene with its 2024 installment featuring popular public performances developed in collaboration with UP Projects and a new partnership with the Government Art Collection (GAC), which will acquire one work on display.
London Gallery Weekend also announced an expanded European Curator Bursary Fund and the return of the Art Fund Travel Bursary for Visiting Curators in partnership with Art Fund and with support from Contemporary Visual Arts Network.
"Momentum continues to build year-on-year as we look towards London Gallery Weekend's fourth edition, with an expanded public offering, more than 15 new galleries participating, and a performance programme including the first London performance of the 2024 Venice Biennale Golden Lion Award-winning artist Nil Yalter," said Jeremy Epstein & Sarah Rustin, co-directors of London Gallery Weekend.
Early Exhibition Highlights
Early highlights in Central London include new presentations by John Baldessari at Sprüth Magers featuring mixed media assemblages, and Harmony Korine's acid-hued paintings at Hauser & Wirth. At Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, Jacqueline de Jong will present a new series of paintings in dialogue with works from the 1960s, while Hannah Levy will have a solo exhibition at MASSIMODECARLO.
The Weekend will also welcome new participants from the novel Bloomsbury Group of galleries, such as Brunette Coleman, showcasing a solo presentation by artist Brianna Leatherbury; Hot Wheels Athens London, who will present new works by Danish artist Jesper List Thomsen; and Union Pacific, presenting large-scale works by Jin Han Lee.
South and East London Galleries
South London will also host a series of exciting presentations, including White Cube's exhibition of Georg Baselitz's new paintings; a group show of expressive, gestural paintings by Carole Gibbons, Roy Oxlade, and Max Wade at Sid Motion Gallery; and an exploration of sexuality, domesticity, and identity in pieces by Isabella Benshimol Toro at ZÉRUÌ.
East London will spotlight choreographed photographs by Hannah Starkey at Maureen Paley; BLCKGEEZER's exhibition examining 'Black Nausea' at new London Gallery Weekend participant ALMA PEARL; and the first UK solo show by American artist Violet Dennison at Ilenia.
London Gallery Weekend 2024
The performance part of the programme, developed in collaboration with UP Projects, will feature two artists, Nil Yalter and Adelaide Cioni. As the recipient of the 2024 Venice Biennale's Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement, Yalter's work focuses on the traditions of the Anatolian people and will include multigenerational collaborators from Turkish and Kurdish-speaking communities for her London performance. On the other hand, Cioni's work Touch Song will delve into themes of curiosity, desire, and relationships.
London Gallery Weekend 2024 will take place across London from May 31st until June 2nd, 2024.
