Eternal Ghost

Raed Yassin’s first solo exhibition at Cedric Bardawil, 'Eternal Ghost' takes as its subject the idea of living with the presence of phantoms and ghosts. The exhibition presents three bodies of works: 'The Company of Silver Spectres', 'Phantom', and a new music commission where the artist sharpens the ghostly to the extent that haunting itself becomes an act of remembrance. 'Eternal Ghost' takes us on a journey through the Beirut-born artist’s relationship with death, disappearance and the image, in colourful yet eerie ways. 'Eternal Ghost' will be accompanied by a programme of talks and performances.

Raed Yassin (born 1979, Beirut) is a Lebanese artist and musician working in video, sound, photography, text, sculpture and performance. He graduated from the theatre department at the Institute of Fine Arts in Beirut in 2003, and has since developed a rigorous conceptual practice. Yassin’s work often originates from an examination of his personal narratives and their position within a collective history, through the lens of consumer culture and mass production. He was a resident artist at De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2008-2010), the Delfina Foundation, London (2010 & 2014), Akademie der Künste der Welt, Cologne (2015), and is a recipient of the Abraaj Group Art Prize (2012). As a musician, he is one of the organisers of the Irtijal Festival for Experimental Music in Beirut, and has released several solo music albums, as well as part of groups such as “A” Trio and PRAED. In 2009, he founded his independent music label Annihaya. Yassin currently lives between Berlin and Beirut.
