Jake Longstreth’s solo exhibition, ‘California Landscapes’, explores the artist’s continued documentation of American rural landscapes. Presenting eight large-scale paintings and thirteen works on paper, the exhibition captures different locations Longstreth has visited or encountered in Southern California. Drawing inspiration from Carleton Watkins’s documentation of America, Longstreth utilises a deep brown tonal palette and contrasting light to construct a landscape which transports viewers to these locations, providing a visceral sense of a lived experience.
