In the Mood for Love

Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert is delighted to announce a forthcoming exhibition of early works by David Hockney. The exhibition will bring together an impressive selection of paintings, drawings and prints from both public and private collections, many of which have not been seen together since the 1960s. Curated by Marco Livingstone, 'In the Mood for Love: Hockney in London, 1960-1963' will be the first exhibition to solely review this pivotal three-year period that encompassed Hockney’s artistic developments at the Royal College of Art and immediately after. It will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with an essay by Livingstone and a contribution from Hockney’s dealer during these years, John Kasmin. After leaving Bradford and starting at the RCA in 1959, Hockney's creativity flourished as he drew inspiration from both Europe and America, influenced by recent exhibitions of Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock. Developing his own unique and ambitious language of painting, Hockney started work on a series of Love paintings, several of which will be on display in the gallery.
