When Steel Dreams of Code

Waddington Custot are pleased to announce a solo exhibition of generative works by Bernar Venet. Entitled 'When Steel Dreams of Code', the exhibition combines decades of conceptual inquiry with the emerging possibilities of generative art, logically extending Venet’s renowned Angles series. It will be the first time Venet’s generative works are exhibited in the UK, and will coincide with London Gallery Weekend.

In the 1960s, Venet rose to prominence in the conceptual art movement for his installations made of piled gravel, coal and asphalt and his ‘industrial paintings’ made from cardboard and tar. Later, inspired by his minimalist friends, Donald Judd and Sol LeWitt, Venet developed the curved, mathematically-precise, steel beam sculptures, that echo scribbles, lines and arcs, for which he is renowned.
