Stephen Cox RA (b. 1946, Bristol, UK) is a distinguished British sculptor renowned for his monumental stone works that intertwine classical and spiritual motifs. Educated at the Central School of Art and Design in London, Cox emerged as a significant figure in the New British Sculpture movement of the 1980s . His art reflects a synthesis of Western and non-Western traditions, drawing inspiration from Italian, Egyptian, and Indian cultures. Notably, he has worked extensively in Mahabalipuram, India, and was the first artist in centuries to access Egypt's Imperial Porphyry quarries . Cox's sculptures, often carved from materials like porphyry, alabaster, and basalt, are featured in prominent public and ecclesiastical spaces, including Canterbury Cathedral and the British High Commission in New Delhi . His works are part of esteemed collections such as the Tate Gallery and the British Museum. In recognition of his contributions to art, he was elected a Royal Academician in 2010
