Daniel Arsham

Daniel Arsham is pleased to return to the UK for his first solo presentation at Perrotin London. For this latest exhibition, Arsham transports us to his universe, probing the past to bring us into the future. He will debut a suite of works from his latest series of Labyrinth works.

 

Composed in cast sand and bronze, Arsham’s Labyrinth works draw influence from artists like M.C. Escher and René Magritte’s maze-like works to create a sculptural double portrait. From head-on the works appear as a portrait bust of a sitter, transforming in the profile view into a maze of architectural levels and stairwells. This new body of work marks a striking evolution in his practice, drawing a deliberate connection between his current engagement with classical forms and the imagined architectural spaces that defined the artist's early career. Known for reinterpreting icons of antiquity through a contemporary lens, this series deepens that conversation by merging the quiet monumentality of Greco-Roman busts with the spatial complexity and conceptual curiosity that shaped his formative investigations into fictionalised built environments.

 

Creating a visual link, Arsham will present a suite of works referencing important sculptures from Antiquity, using his own geologic materials to create erosions. Alongside the sculptural works Arsham will present several new paintings including a still life with a labyrinth bust and a selection of charcoal preparatory drawings.
